🎁 MERRY CHRISTMAS!🎄

1- Minimise runoff Maintaining dense beneficial vegetation around your lake or pond is extremely beneficial for improving water quality and preventing erosion. This area is commonly referred to as a buffer zone and it is recommended that your landscape company leave a 1 to 1.5 meter section above the water level un-mowed so that it can grow and benefit the pond. When rain water drains through parking lots and streets and then grassy areas, the water will have accumulated a significant amount of nutrients that will lead to lake and pond algae blooms.

Buffer zones can go a long way in helping to prevent problems for your lake or pond. Establishing buffer zones around the edge of your pond takes very little effort, requires little maintenance, and will likely reduce the costs associated with mowing and trimming along the edge of the pond on a weekly basis.

In the long run, it will also reduce the likelihood of excessive algae and other water quality issues that come from nutrient loading, thereby reducing the need for constant treatments, and lowering your long term costs associated with managing your water.

You will also benefit from proper buffer management with an increase in the aesthetic value of your lake or pond. With beneficial wetland plants, grasses and other beneficial species throughout the buffer, it can be a very pleasing sight that will undoubtedly increase the value of your property.

2- Add beneficial bacteria. A weak microbial community can be a contributing factor leading to poor water quality and poor clarity. Chemical treatments, washouts, and runoff are all common events that can negatively impact the abundance or activity of microbes in an aquatic environment.

Ailing microbes and poor floc-formation can limit the community’s natural capabilities and lead to increased turbidity and nutrient overloading. Parklink’s REGEN-Clarify is a high-performance liquid probiotic that clarifies water through enhanced biological flocculation.

This formulation removes nitrogen and temporarily binds phosphorus in the water column. Designed for aquatic professionals, it quickly restores balance and improves clarity in lakes and ponds. Click here to read more.

3- Aeration. Aeration is a great tool used to keep ponds and lakes healthy and prosperous. Pond aerators are a form of preventative maintenance that has more benefits than just cutting down on pond algae growth. Aeration can make or break the health of an ecosystem; and every pond no matter the location, has a need for aeration. Modern upgrades in technology allow for an efficient, alternative variety of aeration solutions. Click here to read more.
